Fall Classic Final Game Draws 51 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The thrilling extra-inning clash that saw the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a combined over 50 million spectators across the US, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB stated this is the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 contest between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic game drew 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked 4th, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

Global Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game drew 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – recorded 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match series averaged 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the complete American average reached over 16 million. The total World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent increase over the previous year and Fox’s best postseason performance after the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the World Series was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 different languages.
